Konradsdorf Comprehensive School in Germany has acquired a lifesaving HeartSine samaritan® Automated External Defibrillator (AED) thanks to funds raised by a local college and sponsors.
The AED will protect the faculty and students at the school in the event of a time-sensitive Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). SCA is a malfunction of the heart’s electrical system, which causes it suddenly and unexpectedly to begin to beat rapidly, then erratically, and finally to stop altogether.
A number of the teachers and administrators have already been trained on how to use the user-friendly defibrillator. Their training will be part of the important first aid training course all teachers will have to regularly take part in.
Faculty member Thomas Ivan is very pleased to have the AED on-site, as there are more than 1,400 people on school grounds on a daily basis, thus increasing the odds of a SCA attack taking place.
